Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA) is a Sylhet division based non-government development organization (NGO) incepted in 1993. Started as think tank in north-east periphery of Bangladesh, IDEA became a renowned local development practitioner for the development of the poor and disadvantaged including women and men farmers, children, adolescent, persons with disability leaving in remote rural and urban slam areas. We also have been working with ethnic minority people in Haor (flood prone and low-lying area), hill and tea estate areas. Our multi -dimensional approaches to development helped improve situation of our programmes’ participants and met the goals of MDGs. IDEA has been striving over the past 24 years seeking the empowerment of bottom twenty in a special focus on the advancement of community people, especially, rural farmers, women and children. IDEA’s strategies are to attain the organization’s vision, mission and objectives through contributing significantly towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). IDEA’s central office is based in Sylhet and it has branches which are operating field activities in Upazilas of four districts under Sylhet division.
IDEA is registered with the Department of Social Services and NGO Affairs Bureau of The Government of Bangladesh. It is also internationally registered with EuropeAid/ PADOR and endorsed with DUNS, NCAGE and SAM. IDEA is the member of the Federation of NGOs in Bangladesh (FNB), lead of CSRL in Haor group, lead of SUPRO in Sylhet, member of CAMPE, member of Democratic Budget Movement (DBM), member of Water Supply Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) of UN.
