Noken Papua Foundation was established to preserve noken multifunctional knotted or woven bags and other handcrafts of Papua people. The main objective is the Nokens Papua World Heritage Movement, a joint action between Papua indigenous people and all of the people in Papua. Noken was inscribed on the list in need of urgent of safeguarding in 2012, and needs to be protected and developed into a noken movement. Papua people all together must revive it from each individual to his or her family, neighbors, society, community, and tribe. This element starts with the nursery, planting, and cultivation of noken raw materials, as well as its utilization.
The Noken Museum in Jayapura, Papua Province, holds collections that show the processes of preservation, protection, development, and utilization of the materials. The Noken Museum is a place for preserving culture as a philosophy of life, with the vision and mission of passion for development and protection.
