Objectives
  • To be proficient and have a basic knowledge of traditional Myanmar medicine;
  • To take care of citizens’ health using traditional medicine;
  • To participate in the nation’s heath projects with traditional medicine;
  • To conduct scientific research in accordance with the age of power of Myanmar traditional medicine;
  • To study not only traditional Myanmar medicine but also traditional medicine from other countries;
  • To collaborate with western medicine if needed, using treatments based on traditional medicine when used in public health care;
  • To promote and maintain the dignity and moral values of physicians in sequent.
Introduction

According to the instruction of the Ministry of Health, Department of Traditional Medicine, University of Traditional Medicine was opened on 24 Aug 2002, in Aungmyaetharzan Township, Oboe Quarter, slot no. 40. The area is 11.42 square feet and comprises a four-story, a three-story, a two-story, and a one-story building, all connected.

University of Traditional Medicine comprises six departments:

– Department of Myanamar, English, Pali, and Takata

– Department of Chemistry, Physics, Botany, and Zoology

– Department of Anatomy

– Department of Micro-biology and Disease

– Department of Bio-chemistry

– Department of Library and Museum, Computer, and Research

In addition, there is a department of administration, student affairs, herbal park, and healthy body.

Major Activities
  • Forming proficient physicians.
  • Training and teaching in the usage and importance of research.

The library is open to the public and students and holds 12,506 books on Myanmar and English, 110 books of medicine theses made with palm leaves, 202 religious palm leaf books, and 125 parabeik. This library aims to promote itself as an e-library and become an international standard in the future. There is also an herbal park with herbs and trees for the students to study practically.
