Yala Mandala is an urban artisan village comprising of a gallery, cafe, arts residency program, and handicraft workshop which aims to contemporize tradition.
Specific objectives are as follows:
We started with our handicrafts workshops in 1990. Then, we brought everything under the Yala Mandala brand in 2010.
Yala Mandala (which means Patan city) explores, designs, develops, and distributes variety of products (jewelry, buttons, knitwear, paper, and various lifestyle products) and services inspired by local art, culture, and heritage, and showcases these skills at the international stage using designs that not only match modern aesthetics with traditional skills, but incorporating innovative ideas, and con-temporizing tradition.
Yala Mandala also preserves and promotes intangible local and traditional art and architecture by hosting events in abandoned or neglected buildings. At Yala, it is not only the products but the atmosphere and the energy of the place that one can experience, especially during various musical, artistic, and culinary events.
Yala Mandala is committed to producing the highest quality Nepali handicrafts. We specialize in in-house production of handmade jewelry, natural buttons, knit wears, paper products and accessories, and collaborate with independent craftsmen to produce rugs, candles, paintings, bath and beauty products, and much more. In addition to certain finished items, we have long worked with various clients to create custom-designed products to suit their needs.
Yala designs, develops, and manufactures products that are inspired by the local community and heritage, while at the same time incorporating new, innovative ideas. We structure all of our activities centred on close collaborations with both local artisans and innovative designers in our creative environment.
Yala also manages a cafe in a culturally rich environment while sustaining and promoting local cultural heritages, developing new handicraft products, while sustaining and promoting local cultural heritages. We also organize multiple art, culinary, and musical workshops/events to highlight tangible and intangible cultural heritages.
